KNOWLEDGE LEVEL: Intermediate

PROBLEM: Software
COMPUTER TYPE: compaq
MODEL: amd K6 233
RAM: 32meg
OS VERSION: Windows 95
SERVICE PACK: 1

DESCRIPTION:

When I click on the icon for Ie the browser opens but then I get an error saying Internet explorer cannot connect to the server, the popup box for the dial up networking doesn't come up either. I can connect with Outlook express fine, and I can connect by clicking on my isp account in the dial up networking folder in my computer, and then click on the Ie icon and it works. I can also access my opening page in the offline mode and then hit refresh and there is a box that pops up and asks if I want to connect , when I select yes everything works!!!
This has me baffled, did I erase an important file or .dll somewhere that has caused this? Thanks for the help, Brian

Hi Brian

Welcome to No Wonder!
From the sound of it you may not have IE4 set to automatically dial your ISP. Right Click on your Explored icon and then properties and connection. Check to be sure that you are set to use a modem (although you probably are ok there since it works otherwise) then click on settings. Check the box in the lower half of the dialog box to "connect automatically" and then click on OK to close the dialog box. While you are there check to see that you have your dialup connection set to call your ISP. That is in the top half of the same box.
Thanks for using No Wonder!
