Knowledge Level: Beginner
Problem: Combination
Computer Type: apple
Model: imac
RAM: 32meg
RAM Enhancer: Virtual Memory
OS Version: MacOS 8.1

Description:
After a short while of surfing with ie4.5
things slow down to a crawl for several minutes at a time. The hard drive can be heard whizzing away while everything(clock etc.) stops until it's finished.
Is it just poor software in need of a update(is there one?) or do I need to do some thing with memory settings or some other tweaking. I've given it 8meg prefered ram. This all can happen with nothing else running.
Should I dump it and go back to 4.1?
Thank You so much for this indespensible service y'all provide. When I have 25 bones to spare I will earmark it pour vous

Hello Dan,

On the contrary, IE 4.5 is the finest browser version that Microsoft has ever had and is by far the fastest. Its MAIL companion Outlook Express v4.5 is also the best in its class, too.

I would ask if your problem might be that you might still have the folder for the previous version still on your hard disk? If you do you need to get rid of it. That is likely to be the problem as far as slowing it down. Assuming you do still have it then I would put it into the trash without trashing it and then restart the v4.5 and see if all works well before actually emptying the trash.

You probably do not need go have 8 MB in memory. The recommended amount is adequate. Get back to me and let me know what you find out including how high you have virtual memory.
