Recently, a lot of my file icons for Illustrator 10.0.3 have become CS2. In doing so, i am unable to open them, getting an error -39. i get around this by dragging them off the server they are hosted on onto my desktop. this only happens to file with the CS2 icon, when most of the time they are in fact 10.0.3 files.
also recently random file icons will change from their normal .pdf or .eps icon to a grey unix executable file icon. is this a computer problem or is a program effect this?
i tried reinstalling 10.0.3 and it did nothing.

Howdy!
Did you recently upgrade to CS2?
I'd first recommend repairing permisisons and then restarting: apps/utilities/disk utility/repair permissions. Might fix your problem right away.
What system are you running? Panther? Tiger? This might shed some light as well.
Click once on an illustrator file and get info and change Open With... to be Illustrator CS not CS2. Then all files of that format will be opened with CS.
Did you receive a CS2 file from someone and then open it?
Let me know some more details and follow repair permissions step above.

no, we've had CS2 for quite a while. they are not CS2 files. they are 10.0.3 files that all of a sudden have a CS2 icon. these are files that previously would open with 10.0.3 until recently. we are currently running panther on that computer.
i tried the disk permission and it didnt nothing.
its only when the files are on the server they dont open. if i drag them to my desktop i no problem opening them in 10.

Did you try the Get Info fix I gave you?
What kind of server are you on? Who else is using the server and do they have CS2?

Did you repair permissions using Disk Utility AND boot in Safe Mode to repair root permissions?

I just re-read your post. The reason your files are being read as CS2 is that's what your computer default is set to when you see the server. Knowing what kind of server you are using might help me give a solution...

Are you double clicking the icon open from the server or from within Illustrator?
ldoubled - Sep 27, 2006 - 4:15 am
from the server. if i drag it off and open it from my machine, but its a hassle to do that everytime for every file.
