I have the original Adobe illustrator 10.0.3 program. But the program will not start up, it goes through it's loading faze and right before it opens, it comes up the a error message type 2, and quits.

I'm running Mac G3 with plenty of ram and heaps of hard drive space.
And using system 9.2.2 I've have tried reinstalling illustrator 10 software but it still gives me the same thing. Having illustrator 8 already existing on the computer, could it give me a problem? I've tried Trashing: AI prefs / Adobe on line prefs and Plug-in cache but it still doesn't work.

Can anyone help?

Thanks
juz

Welcome on macosx.com

Could you navigate to the Illustrator folder, select (just select, not double-clikc) the Illustrator 10 application.

Then File/ReadInformations

A new pane appears with a toglle menu; select 'memory'
The pane is refreshed with memory data

On my Ilustrator 10 on 922 (1G Ram) (no problem to launch it), I see:
1st/Recommended/ 70934 k
2nd/Minimum/ 54934 k
3rd/Required/ 70934 k

Could you try to rise the last number, let's say, to 200000k (two thousands Ks)
Close the pane
Relaunch

Does this helps ?

Hi Philippe,

Sorry it took so long for me to reply, but I've been on holidays and haven't had access to a computer.

I'll start off by saying thank you for getting back to me with my illustrator problem. I tired what you suggested, but I was still not able to launch the program, I tried a few things, turning virtual memory on and then off, bumping up the memory of illustrator like you said etc.

Doing this made my computer crash sometimes and run funny.
A few error messages came up such as ("could not be opened because PDFL50 Carbon.lib could not be found") and (error type 1 occurred) also error type 41 occurred.

But I think I might have a Ram problem its only showing 417megs of ram....when it should have around 1gig. The memory cards might not be in place right as I've moved house and the computer was pack and moved? haven't had a chance to open it up yet but I will soon. (could that be a issue?)

If you have any other ideas that would be great.

Thanks again.
Justin

Well, yes, badly positionned RAM can be an issue. Check it. But, in this case, you'll have problems with other applications.

I would also consider re-installing Illustrator

Ok I'm still on my mission to get illustrator working on my mac.
As you know I have Adobe illustrator 10.0.3 program. But the program will not start up, it goes through it's loading faze and right before it opens, it comes up the a error message type 1 and type 2 sometimes, and then quits.

I've tried doing all your things but still the same thing.
I check the ram cards and they all look fine, but I did think I had more than 412 of ram...(maybe this is not enough to run Illustator 10 on my mac?)

My system is 9.2.2 I've have tried reinstalling illustrator 10 software many times but it still gives me the same thing.

Is there anything else you can think of..or should I give up?...ha ha

Thanks again for all you help

Virtual memory is off, I've played around having it on and off, but illustrator still doesn't work. (it's off at the moment)

I'll down load the techTool Lite and Run it....I'll let you know how I go.

thanks again.
