I'm running an imac g5 version 10.4.2
I have recently transfered all my files from a G4.
I find that the applications photoshop 7 and illustrator 10 crash very frequently - this is the error message....
Acrobat PDF File Format is having difficulties. There was a Macintosh system error (-37)
Is this a conflict with adobe acrobot 6? As I installed this on my machine recently and I can't be sure if the crashes were happening before I installed this or not. Both photoshop and illustrator also crash when toggling between the 2 programmes. (clipboard problems? I don't know)
I also have older software versions and the OS9 operating system on my machine (which I no longer use at all now) but I don't know if this has any bearing on anything.
Please help! Thanks.

Howdy! Have you tried repairing your permissions? (apps/utilities/repair permissions).
Then, do a full restart of your computer. If the problem persists then start up with your system disk (don't reinstall OS X) and go to File/Open Disk Utility and "Repair Disk" there. Choose your main system, not the cd, in System Preferences while still booted on CD and then restart.
If you still have the problem, I recommend doing a search for your illustrator and .pref files (should be in User Hard Drive/Library/Preferences) and move them to a folder on your desktop called DELETE THESE. This will force illustrator and photoshop to rebuild these preference files. Could be the problem.
Let me know!

Hi Nathaniel,
Thanks for quick response. I'm not seeing a repair permissions option the in the utilities folder? Bit alarmed as to why it isn't there.
Any ideas.
I don't want to try the other options till i've tried your first option. Unless of course you suggest othrewise. Look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers, Kerr.

i've now repaired disk permissions and still getting the same PDF message and crashing all the time. both photoshop and illustrator quit at the same time.
i can't find any preference for either app in the preferences folder either. Is there a patch to download or somehting. am starting to despair.

me again, i've found the prefs (was looking in the wrong library!) and deleted them and this hasn't helped either. It seems to only crash when i cut an object from ilustrator and attempt to paste it into photoshop.

Have you repaired disk yet? (See earlier post for instructions)

am sure it's something to do with importing clipboard data. this is what appears to casue the crashes and the PDF message.

Try repairing permissions while you are booted up with that system disk.
I'm trying to narrow down our options here, hopefully I'm not frustrating you.

What sort of graphics are you using to copy and paste? jpgs gifs or tifs and eps files?
