I haven't had this problem before, I used my adobe illustrator CS earlier. On returning to my computer I tried restarting my computer by it said it couldn't quit Illustrator so I went force Quit and restarted.
Now every time I try start up the program I get the error - The application Adobe Illustrator CS quit unexpectedly."
Please HELP!!!!!!!!

Howdy!
First, repair permissions (apps/utilities/disk utility/repair permissions).
If that doesn't do it, boot in Single User mode and force a repair: reboot while holding command + s/type the command fsck -fy when cursor appears on black screen with white text/type the command reboot to reboot). This is perfectly safe as long as you don't type in any other commands.
If those things don't work, you need to search for Illustrator and delete your .plist and .pref files you find. Illustrator recreates these and should be able to restart.
If not, you probably have a font problem and need to download FontExplorer:
http://www.linotype.com/fontexplorer and go to Tools/Clean System Fonts and then create a MY FONTS (or similarly named, your choice) and put all your fonts in there. Load those fonts in FE: File/Add to Library.
Let me know how many steps you get through before your problem gets fixed.

Hi Natobasso
I tried all of the above - and still no success. The only one I wasn't sure about is finding the .plist and .pref files. I couldn't find any in illustrator. Where were you refering to as I did a search and found many in my library and preferences etc. but I did not think you were refering to these. Where can I locate the illustrator .plist and .pref files?
Other than that do you have any other ideas?

Search for Illustrator. Grab the .plist and .pref files you find and move them to the trash. Restart Illustrator.
Did you not see any .pref or .plist files? These usually reside either in the Adobe folder for the apps or in your user/preferences or user/library/preference folders. Don't worry about deleting illustrator prefs (or any cs suite prefs) as they are recreated when you try to open the app again.

Thank you for your help but these things have not worked so I am going to try reinstalling illustrator. In your opinion is that a good idea. I am kinda getting desperate!
thx Shareen

If you've tried everything I listed, the last thing you can do is use your os x install disc 1, boot with that (restart with the dvd in the drive and hold the C key till you see the different boot screen) and go to File/Open Disk Utility (do NOT reinstall OS X). Repair permissions from here, and this might fix it.
If not, I'd recommend UNINSTALLING illustrator and then reinstalling it. It's your last resort.
Have you tried using Illustrator in a different user account on your machine? I normally have at least two user accounts (admins) on each machine I use to do tests like this.
