I am having major headaches with Illustrator cs2 - It constantly crashes. I have re-installed it, deleted the preferences...
I am currently using OS 10.4.6 and have had previous problems with Illustrator because of the operating system. But this is ridiculous - please can you help me?

Howdy! I've heard of many other users having issues when upgrading to Tiger 10.4.6.
I do need some details from you:
* are you saving files to a server or to your hard drive?
* do you have lots of placed images in your files?
* how do you organize your fonts?
I'd recommend first booting in COMMAND LINE MODE, command + s on restart and hold the key combo till the black screen comes up with white text. Then type fsck -f, then type reboot when that operation is complete. Should take a few minutes.
After you restart illustrator should work better. If not, you might think about downloading CacheOut and Cocktail from versiontracker.com and running those two apps to clean out your system.
Have you tried clicking the illustrator icon in the tool bar (while the program is loaded) to see if there are any updates from adobe?
Let me know if the Command Line Mode works and we'll take it from there.

Hi thanks for your response. In answer to your questions - I'm saving files to my hard drive, some of my files have lots of placed images however they always vary, and my fonts are either in a system folder or in font book.
If I try the command combo, should I back up all my files before I attempt this?

I would have your files backed up regardless, but this is a safe operation (sometimes called Safe Mode) so it should only do good for your computer.
I recommend also not storing any User fonts in System/Library/Fonts; it seems the computer runs better with the 1000's of fonts in the first level of your hard drive directory. I have a CREATIVE FONTS folder when I first go into my hard drive where I load fonts from.
How full is your hard drive? The more full your hard drive the more problems can result as well, but normally these Illustrator issues can be fixed by doing basic system maintenance.

It seems that just disconnecting the computer from the local ethernet stopped the problem of constant crashing. Getting all the other computers on the network finally upgraded to CS2 has managed to resolve the problem too. Thanks for your help again
