Howdy, Emmy; Nathaniel here.

Where are you saving the file to? An external, internal or server drive?
What's in the file?

We'll take it from there.

I've tried saving the file to my desktop, to the server and straight on to disk. None work. The file is made up of lots of bitmaps, i think these are the problem as i opened a new a4 document and tryed saving it with just one bitmap and the same error came up.

I only import 300dpi CMYK tifs to my illustrator docs; 72dpi jpgs only when I'm doing a web layout. Turn your bitmaps to grayscale and see if that fixes it.

Did my advice help?

I was working on a page that involved over 150 bitmaps each a different colour, so to bring them in a s grayscale would have been a nightmare. Also the resolution had to remain high is it was artwork for a wall 8m x 2.8m.
