Recorded a DVD this morning . . . then, out of the blue, the eject button won't work, System Profiler says "No burning device was found. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly," Toast doesn't see the recorder . . .

Tried repairing permissions, restarting, zapping PRAM . . . nothing. The box is about 2.5 years old. What should I do?

Hi Tonbo

Try Reseting Open Firmware.
Reboot your computer while holding down Command-Option-O-F. At the prompt, type

reset-nvram and hit the Return key, then type
reset-all and hit the Return key again. Your computer will reboot.

If this doesn't help. I would have a technician look at it.

Bob,

After posting at Apple I got the same reply--but it didn't work. Thinking it could be mechanical, I shut the computer down (usually it's on 24/7) for a couple of hours, and lo and behold, it's working again! I'm wondering if it could be heat-related, as we're having somewhat of a heat wave up here (even though this room is air-conditioned).

Thanks for the reply! I'm writing down the key combo for future reference.

Cheers,

nick

Nick

Hard to say what caused it, I guess heat could affect it.

Glad it's working again.
