Thanks,

Matt

Yes, you can with a variety of hacks. But why would you want to?

Because I would like to have OSX on my imac. So, how would one go about doing that? Will it work if I get a OSX 10.0 install disc?

So, I'm not going to get any more help with this?

No, not from me. But I've reopened the question so that other techs can help you. BTW, 10.0 is so unstable, you shouldn't install it on any Macintosh; try a copy of 10.2 instead. Also, you will have to do a couple of firmware upgrades and use a program (can't remember the name, it's on versiontracker.com and macupdate.com) which will help to allow the install. You may also have to install more RAM and you won't have any (or much) space for any third-party software. Have fun.

Ishan,

Thanks very much. So, I should probably be starting from the last version of classic, right? OS 9.2? Then download the firmware updates from mac. I will look for the program, but what kind of program is it? What keywords should I use to search for it?

Believe me, I understand how silly this is, but all I want to use it for is word processing (but need OSX for Word for mac) and internet.

Thanks for your help,

Mddublin

Hi Matt

You can install OS X on this machine. It supports up to 10.3.9. I would go with 10.2.

You can buy 10.2

HERE for $39.00

You won't need other software to be able to install, but you do have to update the Firmware. You can download that

HERE

You can have OS 9.1 or up on the machine for this.

Thanks bobw, so just to be sure, Bondi Blue with 233 MGhz PowerPC processor with 160 MB of Ram and about 3 GB of available space on the hard drive? Right now, it has OS 8.5 on it, so I'd need to upgrade to OS 9.1 and get the firmware updates, right?

Thanks,

Matt

Matt

Yes, just update to OS 9.x and install the Firmware and then you can install OS X.
