Hi I own the 15" G4 Imac 800mhz 256ram and recently bought a 512mb SDR SODIMM PC133 stick to upgrade. following instructions I fitted the ram and the machine would not boot. Made three loud Beeps and I had to crash it. I tried again with the same result, Eventually I removed the new ram and the machine booted up fine as usual.
Is there anything I should know, as I have never upgraded ram before.
thanks
Hi Simon
Three beeps indicates the memory is bad. Return it for another stick.
Make sure the seller says this is compatible with a Mac.

Thanks very much, I feel like I am learning a secret arcane language, "three beeps bad..." The seller did say it was compatible. I just find myself wondering how often ram is bad in general, i mean, what are the odds. Oh well. Thank you.
Sorry to be a bother, but I had the ram put in an exactly similar machine and it worked fine, so I am wondering what my options are other than taking it in somewhere to have professional eyes give it a once over. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Simon
You said exactly similiar machine. Was it the same model exactly with the same operationg system on it?
OS X is picky about ram.
Since the machine works fine without it in, and doesn't when it's in, it's not compatible with your machine.
