The church I attend has an imac g4 computer that will not boot into the OS. The computer turns on and then I get a screen that is gray in color and the circular icon that spins and thats all it does. Never enters the OS. I'm a PC tech by trade and I'm really not that familiar with macs. I saw that I could remove a circular cover plate on the bottom of the computer and then I saw a few torx screw heads to remove. I wasn't sure if I should venture in without some help. I'm not sure what version OS is installed, but I'm pretty sure its not X.

Thanks for your help.

This is a software problem, so don't start removing any Torx screws just yet. Start up with the install CD that came with the Macintosh and run Disk Utility to repair the internal drive. If it finds problems, run it again until there are no problems found. Then boot from the internal drive and see what happens. If it boots properly, great. If not, I would get DiskWarrior for OS 9 (I assume that's what you're running) and boot off the Diskwarrior CD and let it repair the internal HD's directory. If that doesn't work, you would have to erase the drive and reinstall the OS using the CD that came with the iMac.

HTH.
