hi-
i have an iMac G5 that i bought about 2 months ago and it has just started to hang on boot. it stays at the screen with the small "dial" animation but won't go any further. the dial keeps rotating below the apple logo indefinitely. btw, i am running tiger. any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Tom, welcome to macosx.com
(1) could try to boot with all your peripherals unplug from the mac (of course let the kb and the mouse connected)
(2) could follow in the following page
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/repairprocess.html
the instructions for repairing the disc and repairing permissions
(3) do you install something special befoire it starts to hang: RAM ? USB modem ?
(4)if this not helps, could you follow these instructions
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
to boot in safe mode and run the fsck system verification Unix command
Regards
Philippe
thanks for the helpful response. it appears that a power outage is what caused it to get fucked up. i tried to boot to safe mode last night to no avail to try and fsck the disk. tonight i will try the repair disk article that you posted. again, thank you for your help.
