Hi Bill, and welcome to NoWonder Mac support!

The best choice as I see it is to get a "Ethernet card" for the PowerBook. This will enable you to network the two computers together using either a single cable or using a "hub". The hub is a box which you use to connect several network devices together - for example if you would later like to add a printer to your little network.
A good ethernet card for your powerbook made by Farallon and is available from any computer store. Look at this web page for info; .

Check out these pages for tips on how to build a small network;

Don't be afraid, it's easy - you are using Macintoshes aren't you?

Good luck!
