Description:
I've recommended an Imac to my PC friends. They want an Apple but want one to which they can attach their five-year-old Panasonic camcorder and record film clips or freeze frame pictures (like my 6220 CD Performa). Is this capability already in the Imac waiting for the right USB peripheral to attach to it? Or are they out of luck without going to a larger and more expensive desktop model?

Thanks for your help.

I just read an article about a new USB video device for the iMac. Unfortunatly I don't know all to much about it, but I can give you the company and site and you can research it. I think it was just released for Macworld in San Fransico. I have enclosed the article I got it from below (from www.maccentral.com). The name of the company is Ariston (www.ariston.com). They make memory and USB devices for mac and PC. I hope that is what your looking for.

Hope I could help,

P.S. Way to convert another PC user.

Ariston will be expanding the range of peripherals available for the iMac's USB I/O standard with the
announcement of the "iView" USB Video Image Capture Device. The new product is a portable motion
picture and still image capture device that enables the user to capture images without having to open the
computer and install a video capture device.

The iView supports VCR, TV, Game Player, Camcorder and Analog PC Cameras, with a capture rate
of 30 fps at 160 x 120. Frame size can be anywhere up to 640 x 480 (SCIF). In the style of USB, the
iView offers full plug-and-play installation as well as hot swap capabilities. Software provides BMP
and AVI support. Other file formats are supported (such as PCX, TIF, JPG, TAG) depending on the
software used.

"One of the great things about the iView is that it brings full video image capture, manipulation, and
editing capabilities to the desktops," said Ariston's CEO, Lazaros Bountour. "Macintosh has long been
a popular platform with photographers and graphic artists. Products like the iView extend that tradition
to the new generation of computers based on USB architecture."

Pricing and shipping dates have yet to be disclosed.
