despite following the Mac tech support, my iMac Intel can only receive mail. I have pinged the mail.mac.com which hasn't worked. I then deleted the account and set it up again suing the smtp.mac.com server and tried different ports. I also checked firewall was deactivated - still no joy.

HI Chris,

I'm hoping this is an easy fix. Try the following. Locate this file;

com.apple.mail.plist MacintoshHD>Users>Library>Preferences. Open the Preferences folder, locate that file and drag it to the Trash. Empty the Trash.

Now, run Disk Utility. It's in your Applications>Utility folder. Launch DU, select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, click Repair Permissions... only takes a minute to run. Quit Disk Utility.

Get Onyx. It's a great little maintenance disk utility that cleans up caches/logs... all kinds of bugs including glitches that can keep Mac Mail from working properly... here's where to get it: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...ties/onyx.html It's FREE. Only takes a few minutes to download. After downloading... follow the install instructions then launch Onyx. Run the Maintenance and Cleaning scripts. Quit Onyx, reboot your Mac.

I'm hoping either running DU or using Onyx might find and clear out the glitch for Mac Mail for you. One question I have that I keep asking other Mail users... are you using Mail within a .mac account? Or launching Mail from your Dock or Applications folder? I find when you use it from .mac one time and then directly as the application another, it corrupts the preference files... I'm running into that problem myself.

Ok... let me know if anything has helped and thanks for choosing Macosx.com!

Regards,
Carolyn :-)
