i have a DVD i burned from a VHS tape of family movies.

i want to transfer that DVD onto my macbook pro for use in imovie.

i was told i had to de-code the dvd from TS into a format which imovie can read.

i was told to buy POPCORN.

i downloaded POPCORN 3 and now i CANNOT figure out what the heck to do !

the POPCORN forums were not helpful , nor was the read-me file.

can u help ??

thanks

Connie,

this worked for me (using iMovie 6.0.3). Open a new project in iMovie and choose Import from the File menu or press ⇑⌘I. Point iMovie to the files you need. In this case they will be on the DVD in the VIDEO_TS folder, called something like VTS_01_0.VOB, VTS_01_1.VOB etc. Following import they should show up in the clips palette to the right of the video screen in iMovie.

allan,

i tried what you suggested already.. when i point to the directory where the movie is stored thru popcorn3 , it is greyed out and can't be moved.

i tried to drap the mpeg movie to my desktop and add it to imovie from there .. nope... didn't work ... any other suggestions ?

i see the video_ts folder.. can't move it .

did i waste $50 on this software ? = (

i am using imovie in ilife ' 08 version 7.1

connie,

I have never used Popcorn, so I can't give you any help there. Today I had a look at iMovie 7.1 - the version you are using. It seems that things have changed since version 6.0.3. I was also not able to import mpeg or VOB files. Sorry, that I can't be of any help. I will re-open your question for other techs to view.

all the best,

allan

Connie,
I've never used Popcorn so it may do what they originally told you.
The program that I have always used to convert the DVD is called MPEGStreamclip. You can download it here:
http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
It is a free program, so you won't need to spend any more.
Once you have your movie opened in it, choose Convert to DV.

Please let me know if this helps or if you have any questions about using the program.
