Im trying to edit some home video footage in imovie-and imovie freezes up almost instantly when im trying to find a certain part of a video clip. I have to wait 5 minutes for it to unfreeze or restart my computer-but problem keeps happening.

What kind of Macintosh are you using? What version of iMovie? How much RAM do you have and how big is your hard drive? Need a few more details before we can try and sort this out. Thanks.

I have OS 10.4.3
An 80 gig & 120 gig of memory (using 120 for movie files)
512 MB Ram
imovie 5.0.2

Basically it will only play about 2 seconds of a clip at a time, then freezes up for 5 minutes... no exceptions.
Thanks

What kind of Macintosh do you have? Also, how much free space do you have on your 120 Gb external drive?

512 Mb Of RAM will not take you far with iMovie and the program requires a lot of free hard drive space to write temporary files while you do editing. The speed of your Macintosh makes a big difference as well.

I have a tower-G4. I believe I have about 16gig free on the 120gb hd, and 45gb free on the 80gb hd.Right now i am transfering the files over to the 80gb hd as that is the primary drive, I thought that might make the difference. I have edited movies in imovie before on my older G3 tower without any problems, and that was only 512 and a 40gb hd.
