I try to add a movie from my video camera to iMovie. No problem with the video but the audio disappears. When open with other software the audio is there. Any ideas?

Hello Santiago,
I think this is an iMovie bug, because I've experienced the same problem sometimes. Let me ask you some further details:
- are you reimporting videos which have been previously exported from iMovie on to the tape?
- which is your iMovie version?

Kind regards,
Tommaso

No, I am not reimporting, this a movie that came in a CD from a Video Camera. I can open it with QuickTime and the sound appears there.
When I try to export it from QuickTime in any format it tells me in the export settings that there is no audio (although I can listen to it)
My iMovie version is the last one that came with iLife '05 and has been upgraded recently. My Mac OS is 10.3.9

Best regards

Santiago

Ok,
probably it is an audio encoding format which is not fully supported by quicktime.
With further analisys, one might be able to find the right way to convert it, but I'll suggest you a more practical solution:
1) use a tool like AudioHijack (from RogueAmoeba software) to record the audio played by the quicktime application into an AIFF file on your desktop
2) import the video in iMovie
3) import the audio from the AIFF file in iMovie as well
4) try to sync video and audio: this souldnt' be hard if you enable the timeline snap (in iMovie preferences)

If you have troubles in any of these points, don't hexitate to ask. Once you have the right tool, this shouldn't take so long.
Try the exporting procedure for the first two minutes of playback, so you can verify that things are working well without spending an hour for the whole footage.
Beware also that AudioHijack is a shareware, so the unregistered version may not let you record long audio sessions. But if you find another similar tool, it's ok, this is just an example.

Kind regards,
Tommaso Dradi
