Hello

I would like to import an appleworks document to iphoto and do not know how.

I run OSX.3.9 and use iphot0 4. I would like to put a document containing a famous quote at the end of one of the slide shows but when I drag and drop the document into iphoto, iphoto will not accepte it. Is there another way around this?

I am not a techie so please keep it simple if you can.

Thank you

Hi and Welcome to macosx.com!

You can make a screenshot of the document. The screenshot will be saved as an jpeg file on the desktop. Then you can drag it in the album that you want and place it as the last picture.

Kety,

Hold down the keys: Apple, Shift, 4 and then let go. You will see cross. With the mouse pull the cross over the part of the screen you want to make a shot of. The area you covered will become grey.
Then let go. A file named Picture 1 will be saved to your desktop. Then drag this into iPhoto.

Thank you Ferdinand

I have done as you suggested opening my .cwk document and following your suggestions. I ended up with Picture 1 on my desktop. However this is a pdf document now and I am unable to drag and drop to iphoto. When I try it I get an unreadable Files: 1 messsage.

Message reads : "The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)"

Hope you can help

Does it show like this: Picture1.pdf?
If yes, delete the pdf part and put jpeg there instead. A message will show up and you will have to press ok. Then try dragging it in iPhoto.

Hello again Ferdinand

I had actually tried that one thinking the same thing but to no avail. I still get the same message as I explained before.

The actual file name is only picture 1 -it does not have the extension .pdf

The reason I say it is a pdf is because the PDF appears on on the file icon just abover the name picture 1.

Sorry to trouble you further.

Kety

Kety,

Try this: Once your Appleworks document is open, hold down the keys shift, apple, 4 and then click the space bar, while holding down the other three keys. After you pressed the spacebar, a camera icon appears, instead of the cross. Then you can let everything go. Click once with the mouse to make a screenshot of the appleworks document. Then go to your desktop and check if it is PNG or PDF. I think it should be PNG.

Hope this will help,
Ferdinand

Jeff,

Open the screenshot pdf file. Then when Preview has opened with the file, go to File, Save As. Then under "Format" (where it says PDF) choose PNG (fourth one down from PDF). Then save it on the desktop. Close Preview and then open iPhoto. Then drag it in.

Ferdinand

PS: If the file doesnt open with preview, instead with Acrobat Reader or something else, then close it, hold down the ctrl key, then click on the icon of the screen shot. Next to "Open With" choose Preview. It then opens straight away.

Ferdinand.

It is me Kety again. We have tried to follow the above directions but keep getting unstuck.

screen shot pdf file opened in preview-ok... Select file-ok.... select save as-ok...Then we are stopped. There is no "format option no choice of pdf or png or anything else. only

only optios are save as (name) and where (place)

I have preview 2.1.1. (v211) Should I have a later version?

Sorry

Kety,

I have version 3.0.6 and am using Tiger, so I guess you would have to upgrade to Tiger to get this version of Preview. Idea: Hold down the ctrl key, then click on the icon of the screen shot. Next to "Open With" choose Quicktime player. If not an option, go to "Other..." and then to Applications in the source list on the left. Choose Quicktime Player then from there.

Once Quicktime has opened, go to File, Save As, choose desktop or wherever you want and click ok. Go to that file and open iPhoto. Try to drag it in now.

Hope this works now!!!

I think I am a hopeless case.

I followed your directions but when I tried to choose save as, I can't because I do not have the latest version of Quicktime.

This is the message I get when I choose save as....
"Save As allows you to retain your edits and playback settings in a newly named copy of your movie file.
Get QuickTime 7 Pro today to enable this and dozens of other great features."

It seems I have to upgrade to Quicktime Pro if I am to follow your directions.

Thanks for all your help and your continuous flow of ideas but I do know whether there is much more you can do at this stage.

Again many thanks

Kety and Jeff,

I looked at many apps, but I cant find any to do that, what I need it to do, so Preview and Quicktime are the only ones. If this is really important, I would upgrade to Tiger (buy it retail or apple.com) so you get the newest OS and apps on your Apple. Buying QT Pro, just for this one thing, is useless, I would say. Sorry.

I just got THE BEST idea!!!!!!!!!!
Go to this website:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11559

Click the Download Now button. This downloads Graphics Converter, thats just what you need.
Tell me when you downloaded it, so I can tell you what to do next.

Lovely to hear from you Ferdinand.

I had given up hope, so I had not checked messages for a while. I checked out the site you recommended and downloaded the Graphics converter. Once download had finished and I tried to open I got the following message. The followin image failed to mount gc59ub.dmg corrupt image.

I went through the process again and got the same message

I checked out the website again and it seems I need to have OSX.4.5. Is that the reason it won't open.

There are instructions to go to a different site if you have anything less that OSX.4.5. But when I go to this web site, I don't know what I am supposed to do. Whats new. Sorry

At the very bottom of the webpage, it says Download Links.
You then have to click the second link from the top. It then downloads automatically. If you use Safari, Window (one of the menu-items), then click Downloads and you will see that its downloading.

Ok Kety, lets see if this works. So, open Graphic Converter, and then click "Try It". It will become clickable after a few seconds. Where it says: What do you want to do, click Open an Image (or similar). Then find the document. Then once it opened, go to File, Save As, and then under Format, choose:
JPEG/JFIF (*.JPG,*.JPEG)
Save it on the desktop. Then close Graphic Converter and open iPhoto. and drag the picture you saved on the desktop earlier into iPhoto.

I will...
I dont mind if you were to do it next month! Its better you do it slowly and good, then rushed and bad. So I will wait.

Ferdinand

PS: Every now and then, just say something, or you will start getting these annoying e-mail messages that you didnt reply in a while and the ticket then will be closed if you dont.
