Hello.
I'm member SHW5. I've just pushed
the power button on my CPU and the
"Happy Mac" is replaced by a flashing
file folder with ? in it. This happened
to me years before now, but I'm wondering
if the only solution is the reinstall the
system or is there an alternative.

I have a blue and white G3 Powermac tower.
System 9.02
10 Gig HD
1 Gig RAM
350 MGHZ Processor

I backed up on June 10, but I'd like to know
my options before I wipe out the HD.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Hi
(1) I do not know if pressing the alt key when booting allows you to select the startup disk - works with G4 or iMac II..or later..not sure for B&W G3-
(2) try to zap the PRAM: boot with apple+alt+p+r keys simultaneously pressed; wait for two startup chimes; at the second, free the keys and let the mac boot
(3) perhaps the internal battery is dead ?
