Hello MacOSX.com support member,
Just had a network setup with 6 computers in an office but the HANSS-G 19" LCD monitors that were installed are giving my staff and myself headaches. Adjusting the brightness and color and whatever setting we can find does not make the graininess go away. The letters on the screen are just not crisp and sharp. For me to go shop for a better monitor is a time eating thing so can you steer me at least in the right direction for good quality monitors. NOT widescreen, 19" or thereabouts. ONE of the monitors can be REALLY high end for the front office as the girl will have to look at that specific monitor the entire day.
Thank you beforehand
Jan

Haven't heard about HANSS-G displays, but the graininess is not something you can easily fix by adjusting font smoothing in the Appearance pane of System Preferences?

Hi Ben,
Thanks again for the help. I think I did get some improvements on my Mac here with the HANSS-G screen going through the settings in the Appearance screen. In the girlfriend's office however the HANSS-G displays are in a windows setup. The tech there has gone through the settings, but more on the monitors themselves. Do you as a Mac guy maybe know where the similar settings can be found on a Windows XP Pro OS? I do still notice inconsistencies on the screen though when typing a row of i's for instance like: iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, I see some i's sharp and some faint. When enlarging the screen (command +) that disappears. Is that something one just has to live with on a LCD or is that a quality issue.
Thanks
Jan

Well even after enlarging the screen the inconsistency is still there I notice...
Thanks again...

I see the inconsistencies, too. I'll reopen your question because I'm not familiar with the intricacies of display technologies, but I think that's not too uncommon for LCDs in general. Are you also playing with the font smoothing size preferences? The difference is even more prominent when you zoom in on the text (Control+scroll up). It's something I've gotten used to.

Hi Ben,
Thanks for looking into this. I have never been impressed with the way LCD's display text and video. Even iMac's in an Apple store always left me very unimpressed over my old 14 inch CRT. I just did the iiiiiiii test on that same old CRT and O difference between each single i. Now you tell me that you see the same inconsistencies on your end. You may sit behind a superduper iMac... I did play with the font size differences options in the Appearance screen with a website open with multi size fonts on it and found that 8 or 9 best displayed the whole gamma. Ever since I have this LCD I have been using the COMMAND + to get by. But this screen is a headache giver, hence the question to find something better for my girlfriend's office systems. I did notice on some LCD ads the slogan "CRT grade image quality"... Says it all maybe... BUT we do not want to go back to the big lumpy CRT's again for THAT reason...
Thanks Ben.
