I seriously don't know whether I should go through the trouble of re-installing tiger.
How do I check to see whether it's running properly?
I've checked About This Mac and it says I'm running on 10.4.2 and I've already done Software Updates. I used Disk Utilities too and nothing seems to be wrong.
One thing for sure was that when I got it running for the first time, there were a couple of applications that were missing that I had to manually "take" from a friend of mine who has Tiger as well. Applications like iPhoto were not upgraded, iMovie HD and iSync were missing (and when I tried downloading from Versiontracker and ran the installer, it refused to install properly upon restart.)
Same thing happened when I tried to install Windows Media Player. In the end I gave up and used click and drag to my iBook G4.
Guys, please advise.

Fauzulkabir,
After a major install, you should go to Disk Utility (in the Applications folder) and use it to repair permissions. This should correct the problem with installing programs.
Missing programs after the install of Tiger can be a faulty install or you selected the wrong install option. What method did you use to install - Update, Archive or Clean? Were you programs installed in the application folder?
A clean install will erase all your applications and home folder giving you a new, fresh start. All your additional programs would need to be installed fresh. Do you recall if this was what you selected?

Dear Cheryl,
Thank you for the quick reply.
I used Archive and Install. I did run the Disk Utility right after installing Tiger, so the problems did persisted.
The programs were installed in the Application folder. I remembered I had to bring all my stuff on the Desktop, Documents, Pictures and Music to Tiger manually.
The updated version of iTunes and iCal were installed successfully but when I checked iPhoto and iMovie HD, they weren't available.
Maybe I should just backup my stuff and do a clean install?
If I did this, would it be easier since I already have all my mail, iPhoto and other applications, Tiger "compatible"?

Fauzulkabir,
Did you have iPhoto and iMovie on the previous OS? iPhoto, iMovie, and iDVD is part of the iLife package. You need iLife in order to have the latest versions of those applications.
Were those files (Documents, Pictures, etc) on the desktop previously? If so, you may have not select preserve after the Archive selection. This could be why everything had to be manually moved back.
If you do a clean install, you have to have all of your home folder (pictures, documents, etc) backed up on another drive or disk. You also have to have all the installers on disk for your other programs.
Then you can start up the computer with the Tiger DVD. Use Disk Utility first to repair the drive (before you click on the installer screen, go to the Installer Menu at the top of the screen and select Disk utility).
Let me know how you do and if you have any further questions before you proceed.
