I'll try to keep this as short as possible. I am currently running Mac OS 10.4.2. I was using a firewall program that required me to enter in my computer login/password in order to make changes. The regular system login/password window popped up, just like when you install updates from software update in the apple menu. Anyway, I pressed cancel on the box once and since was told that my login/password was incorrect any time I tried, including software update. Long story short, I inserted the installer cd, reset ALL the passwords from the menu, and booted up without the CD. Long story short, every time I enter a password on a web page, iChat, or such that I want to save, keychain pops up and tells me to enter my password. First off, keychain has NEVER asked me to enter my password before and 2nd, when I enter my system password, it says incorrect password.
I would like to know how to reset the password on keychain so I can finally resume storing passwords and I would also like to stop keychain from asking me for my password all together. I feel like a guest user on my own computer. Thanks in advance.
The best way I recommend is take the Macintosh HD/users/Library/Keychain/ folder and dumping it into the trash can, emptying the trash and logging out and back in. Unfortunately, this does remove any passwords store in keychain but it resets it to your login password. This method has been, by far the easyest way I've found to do so.
Otherwise, you can follow this article:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.h...en/mh1777.html
Basically, you go into Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access (launch the program). Then you go to the Keychain Access menu at the top and select Keychain First Aid. Then you can try to repair it from there.
Does this answer your question?
yes, that answered my question. I already made the mistake of resetting my keychain and losing all my passwords which was what I was trying to avoid in the first place hah. So far it has not yet prompted me to enter my keychain password when storing a password, so for now, everything is running good. Thanks.
