Knowledge Level: Intermediate
Problem: Software
Computer Type: Apple
Model: G3/233
RAM: 64meg
RAM Enhancer: Ram Doubler 8.x
OS Version: MacOS 8.1

Description:
I've been having recurring trouble with Type 1, 2, and 11 auto quitting errors with Navigator v4.08 128, Eudora v3.02, and other assorted programs. It happens most often when terminating my PPP dialup connection.

I started using Peek-A-Boo to dynamically view the memory and CPU usage of various processes. I can see that two processes in particular (WebQuick and the Finder) exceed their memory allocations occassionally. The Finder has about 1M allocated but occassionally appears to be requesting over 4Mb!

How can I increase the memory allocation to a process that doesn't have a "Preferred Memory" box in the Get Info dialog? Or am I wasting my time troubleshooting in this manner.

Thx
Ed

Hi Edward and welcome to No Wonder!

You can only increase the RAM allocation of applications.

The Finder automatically assigns more memory to itself when required, so this is not the problem.

Are you using the Apple supplied PPP to connect with?
It is possibly a corrupt preferences file.
