I am trying to create a LTR-size doc with either 8-up or 10-up tickets. The goal is to format the doc so that these tickets print auto-numbered.
I have tried everything I can think of using the Master Page and Section and auto number special characters. I simply cannot get my doc to auto-number individual sections. All the sections on the page simply populate with that corresponding page number.
Alternatively, I tried setting up my document size as the ticket size, and then create as many pages as I need tickets. Here, the page numbering works fine. But now I can't get them multiple up on a LTR-size page.
I know I can do this in MS Word, but I just don't want to go that route. Can anyone suggest anything?
InDesign has totally customizable page numbering features. Don't use Word because commercial printers can't normally use word files very effectively (they won't tell you this, of course).

Set up different master pages for different page number groupings and away you go! You can even start a page 1 as any page number you want by selecting that page in the pages toolbar.
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, this hasn't helped me. I believe the problem is that InDesign's numbering function is based on page numbering and not section numbering. I'll phrase my question like this:
On any single page, how do I set up different sections and have them numbered, say 1-8. And if the document has another page, how do I continue that sequence 9-16?
Do the section numbers by hand, and the page numbers you can do automatically.
You can create a 'Book' of InDesign documents which can help you keep track of sections.
