I just purchased a new MBP, 2.6GHz, 4GB RAM, 200GB 7200 rpm HD and am running OS X 10.5.2. I installed CS3 Premium onto it and for the life of me I cannot get InDesign (5.02) to launch past the "Calling Service Registry" on the splash screen. I've uninstalled/reinstalled, trashed prefs, deleted caches, activated/deactivated fonts, launched with/without Suitcase X1 active, but nothing... it's killing me... :-(
Thanks,
Pete

Howdy!
Go to FontBook and turn off all fonts it's trying to manage. Hopefully that will help.

Hey there,
Thanks for the quick response, unfortunately that didn't do it either...

Possible answers here. Version Cue seems to be a big culprit:

and more here:

If it were a font issue (on boot up) I'd say go to FontExplorer, clean your system fonts folder out, leaving just the default/required fonts.

I hadn't installed VC based on that MacFixit article, but I ran the script anyway... no luck. Font Explorer installed, and everything cleaned up, but no luck there either. I didn't see anything at first glance in the IDsecrets blog, but I'll go over a bit more carefully... thanks again, and also for the additional suggestions. :-)

Sure! Have you tried uninstalling Version Cue? If you don't need it, then doing that might help.
By the way, I hear CS3 requires an internet connection to run and validate for the first time. Are you connected to the internet?
Also, a good permissions repair is always the first line of defense and a great regular maintenance tool:
apps/utilities/disk utility/repair permissions.
Keep me posted

Uninstalling VC was one of the first things I tried, and on subsequent CS3 installs I didn't even install it at all. As you suggested I didn't need it, so no loss there.
I was not aware of the internet connection issue, but I am indeed connected.
Yeah, did a permissions repair as well... at the very least it appears I've been trying all the right things... ;-)
Any more ideas, I'll be here, and that's some really fast response especially when I consider that you guys are volunteers!
I'm thinking about sucking it up and calling Adobe and paying the $29.95 or $39.95 for single issue resolution.

I'd check out the Adobe InDesign forum here for more leads on this:

I did find out that Apple doesn't have any Adobe fixes on tap for 10.5. Any chance you can go back to 10.4?

More here from an Adobe employee blog:

I admit this is a dumb solution.

But I did read through this second url and it's a doozy. Everyone recommending you stay with 10.4.11 and CS3 until things get righted.

I just had a thought, do you have previous versions of CS on your computer or trial versions? Make sure you completely uninstall any previous versions of CS; I've heard there can be conflicts...

Oh yeah, and as a volunteer I love doing this. Feels good when you can help folks and learn something yourself along the way.

And a little more specific help on that blog here:

Dont use a build release lower than 458 (get info on your ID to see what build it is).
Blue Charvel - Mar 14, 2008 - 2:54 pm
Interesting stuff... it sounds like I shouldn't be using 5.0.2 either, which is what I'm upgraded to having started with 5.0 (Build 458), I think 5.0.2 is Build 640... I'll have a go at replying in that blog. I've been following that one and it seems like they've got some knowledge over there for sure.
Thanks again!

Hmm, now that's just $#@%$#$ up... I started thinking about a Thai Language plug-in I haven't used in awhile and how it's always been wonky at best, so I deleted it and lo and behold... everything seems fine now...
Now I'm in the mood for Thai food... ;-)
But seriously, now I feel a little stupid. I apologise for wasting your time, that was truly an awesome amount of suggestions you gave, and research you did. I can't thank you enough, it certainly helped me eliminate a ton of stuff from the list of possibilities!
Best Regards, I totally owe you one.
