I'm using a Quad Core G5, OSX 10.4.6, connnected to a large Windows network. There are instances where my authorization on the network fails after an initial successful connection. Two examples:
Example 1: Entourage connnecting with our Exchange server. When the application is launched, it connects successfully to send and receive mail and update calendars. At some point during the synch process, an error message is generated: "Logon failure:unknown user name or bad password" It gives you the opttion to try and re-enter the info, but the corrrect info is not accepted. If the application is closed and then re-opened, again it makes an initial successful connection and then authorization fails.
Example 2: The company employs web-filtering software, and I'm given specific acccess permissions for a variety of site types that are generally blocked. Those permissions are granted based on username and password. On my Mac, I can navigate to a page on one of these sites (initial autthorization), but cannot navigate further in the site (authorization fails for subsequent loads) I'm able to navigate freely on my Windows machine using same username and password
In both examples, the initial user authorization process is successful (keychain info is correct), but subaseqent authorizaitonss fail. Any help greatly appreciated...IT here refuses to suppport the Mac OS, so I'm on my own in finding a resolution
I am able to logon and stay logged on to shared servers on the network
If you make your way into the Library folder in your home folder and then find the keychains folder. Delete the contence of that, then restart.
When you get back into the system you will have a blank Keychain. Then go into System Prfrences and open up the proxies page on the interface your using to connect to the network. Tick the proxy server requires authentication box (You'll need to do this on all the diffrent protocols) and then set the password into them all (This is your internet password and username).
Now when you use the Internet Safari will log you in automatically.
Now with the silly Microsucks App. You will probably need to re-enter the login details to get the app to connect again.
See if that helps and let me know.
Also abuse IT for me!

Thank you for taking the time to respond, Mike.
Checked with IT re: proxy servers, and was told we do not use them...they suggested I use the IP address and port of our Firewall instead, and use my network login and passsword as the authentication. Entered this info for each of the proxy settings in the network configuration dialog box as directed.
Results: No impact on web browsing/ filtering issue; Entourage wouldn't connnect with the Exchange server at all.
Given the results, I'm guessing that substituting the firewall info for the proxy servers isn't the answer...is there something else i should be asking for since IT says we don't use proxy servers (don't want another lecture from them for using "imprecise terminology")
Thanks again for taking the time to assist.
Chris
Well....
Ask the geniuses at IT what they use to filter the internet with if they don't use proxys (Sound alittle like they just don't want you to use a Mac).
Also ask them what settings they would change on a default windows instalation to make the computer compatable (Make them write it down or email it (Nerd's like email)).
With that we should be able to get the required information and if possible change it for your Mac.
