I have a g3 iBook.
My firewire port does not work and I don't have a dvd driver...
How can I install OS X Tiger. (its not a Tiger issue, thats why I did not write to the Tiger forum)
Is there a way to make a bootable image or something so I can install?
Does my computer have salvation?

Thanks

Hi Franz

See if this helps;

http://www.macos.utah.edu/Documentat...etrestore.html

You'll need another Mac with a DVD drive.

Thank you very much for your quick answer.

For what I understood, I think it will help... but I did not understand exactly how to do it.

I downloaded net restore... and got stuck.

Could you please tell me step by step how to do it? Please?

I do have another mac with dvd drive.

Thank you

I have to apalogize. After reading the documentation again, the Netrestore only works if you have a Server.

Are you sure your Firewire port doesn't work.

Try it anyway, booting into Target Disk Mode to see if it works.

To use FireWire target disk mode

1. Make sure that the target computer is turned off. If you are using a PowerBook or iBook as the target computer, you should also plug in its AC power adapter.
2. Use a FireWire cable (6-pin to 6-pin) to connect the target computer to a host computer. The host computer does not need to be turned off.
3. Start up the target computer and immediately press and hold down the T key until the FireWire icon appears. The hard disk of the target computer should become available to the host computer and will likely appear on desktop. (If the target computer is running Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, you can also open System Preferences, choose Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. Then restart the computer and it will start up in Target Disk Mode.)
4. When you are finished copying files, drag the target computer's hard disk icon to the Trash or select Put Away from the File menu (Mac OS 9) or Eject from the File menu (Mac OS X).
5. Press the target computer's power button to turn it off.
6. Unplug the FireWire cable.

Hi,
I tried again to boot as a target disk.... nothing. If I connect my iPod, it will only charge... I can't see it in iTunes or the desktop as before. Somebody told me that to fix my firewire port, they would have to change the whole motherboard... to expensive for me.
Do you think there is another solution?

Forgot about this, Apple has a Media Exchange program. You can exchange the Tiger DVD for Tiger on CD's. The form is on this page;
