Hi, i have a G3 that just crashed. i can boot from the Mac cd but when i go to first aid and try to fix the hdd i cant find it. I also tryed to initializes it with drive setup but couldnt then i got the drive setup 1.7.3 from apple but cant install it...I get an error saying that this file cant be run becasue the program that creats it isnt available...I also get an error when I boot with the cd after logging in it says that there is a problem with the time settings i am not sure if its related to the problem. How can you install the driver to the hdd if you can access the os 8.1 also if you have only one mac
and the only way to access it is via the Mac cd

If Drive Setup won't see the drive, then it's likely the drive is bad - needs to be replaced.

Then:
Bad IDE cable. or
Power cable to drive is not attached, or
IDE controller connector on the logic board is bad.

thought of that and changed the cable with the cd rom and the cable is ok and the slot on the board is ok too i was able to boot from the cd with the hdd cable and power

that would pretty much leave the problem with the hard drive.
If you have booted with a CD from the same bus as the hard would be attached. and the data cable, and power are both good, then the hard drive must be bad (and two others also.) First, I would double-check the jumpers, that there is no PC-only jumper set (like a 7-bit limitation for an old BIOS, etc.) and that the only jumper is for single/master.
If the hard drive is not seen in Drive Setup, then the drive is bad.

another thing could it be that because the other 2 hdd were formated for pc use the mac didnt recognize them?

Maybe, but the device should still be showing. A drive formatted NTFS might not, I'm not sure about OS 9 with NTFS.

Hi There,
You helped me before but now I have a different problem, I posted the Question but no one was able to help me so i thought running it through you. Here it is
I have a G4 ibook with OSx..... recently I installed a wireless router in my house....the Ibook recognize the network and can go online but every time I start the ibook I need to establish a connection from the network configuration. I want the ibook to automatically connect to the network....i changed one setting that is under advanced....to connect automatically to any open network and still i need to do it manually....please help
the router is a D-LInk

You don't need to go to Network pref pane each time to connect. Just choose your wireless network from the Airport menu (near the clock in the menu bar)
Not every wireless network allows automatic connection, but it's probably just a setting. Just make your dLink the Preferred network. If you have it set to automatically choose any open network, it may fail with the dLink.
