Hi, I have one computer that I have installed Tiger 10.4 on and another spare computer that I am going to use as a backup.
I have upgraded my other computer to version 10.3.9 and checked for software updates and downloaded about 9 items.
After that I tried to load my Tiger CD version 10.4 but it just kicks it back out and won't accept it.
Any idea how I can get it loaded.
Thanks
Jim

The Tiger disk is a DVD not a CD. Unless you can read DVDs on your computer you will need to exchange the Tiger DVD for CDs. Check out Apple's media exchange program at

What model Mac is the spare machine?
Does it have a DVD drive? Not all came with a DVD drive.
Apple will exchnage the Tiger DVD for a CD set.

My other computer is a Quicksilver and you were right it doesn't have a dvd player. Unfortunately I don't want to swap my Tiger dvd as I might need it for my G4 DP MDD that I use now. I am trying to get my old one up to speed as a back up and for my wife to use.
Is there any way I can load the Tiger on my machine and somehow trandfer it on the Quicksilver via network.

Jim
You could install on the spare machine using Firewire Target Disk Mode;

Thanks Bob that looks like a neat way to transfer files I guess I would have to get a special firewire cable with the same plug on each end.
Now as far as trying to load the Tiger dvd onto the Quicksilver, how would I go about doing that.
Would I just transfer the whole dvd onto the Quicksilvers desktop or is there another way that I should do it.

Once you boot with Target Disk Mode. the hard drive of the Quicksilver will be mounted on the desktop of the other machine. Put the Tiger DVD in that machine and boot from it, then you should be able to install Tiger on the spare machine's drive.
Use a FireWire cable (6-pin to 6-pin) to connect the computers.

OK Bob I'll try that it sounds like a great way to do it. Once I boot with the Tiger dvd I won't lose the Target Disk Mode connection will I.

Jim
Boot into Tiger Disk Mode to mount the spare machines's drive, then put the Tiger DVD in, open it and open the Installer. It will require a restart and then you should be able to select the spare's drive to install on.
