I'm using the Mac OS x 10.4 that comes with preinstalled on my powerbook so the only installation CD I have is the Powerbook cd (not the Tiger DVD). How then, can I install x11 since I can't find any free versions for download on the mac website?

Find Optional Installs on your Tiger DVD (have to scroll down).

I don't have the original Tiger DVD though, I only have the Powerbook installation (recovery) dvd which comes with X 10.4. It doesn't seem to have x11 among the optional installs, only applications.

You could try this, but I think it is for 10.3:

I won't be able to help you more than that since I don't have the restore CD to refer to. I'll send you back to the rest of the Techs.

Hi Angela
X11 is an application located with the other optional installs. Have you tried there?

I finally found it, thanks so much. It's on my powerbook installation cd disc 1.
You know, I've been reading many many posts and faqs on this X11 installation topic and always failed to realise the importance of the instruction "scroll down".
You see the tiger dvd installation window had 3 icons on top and that looked like the entire package...
whew.
