when i go to download yahoo messenger, my download manager only allows me to select "save to disk," and so i go ahead and save it to my desktop. once there, i attempt to open in order to install yahoo messenger, and it uses quicktime to open it, and obviously this does not work. what do i use to "open with?" it saves to my desktop as a ".bin" file. thanks.

Hi Laura -

You probably need to install Stuffit Expander which is a utility to uncompress the file you have. Often times files are compressed to allow them to be downloaded faster, and of course they need to be uncompressed once you get them. Stuffit Expander is one program designed to do this - and it used to be included with OS X but no longer as of Tiger (10.4). So, grab the program from Version Tracker and once installed, when you double-click on your yahoo installer file again it should work.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thanks for using macosx.com!
