Knowledge Level: Expert but stumped
Problem: Hardware
Computer Type: Seagate
Model: Barracuda ST15150N
RAM: Not related
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: MacOS 8.1

Description:
I've a PPC 6100/60 and have added a Barracuda 4.3 gb hard drive. Its supposed to be an internal hard drive, but though I can format me at all levels, and can install sys 8.1, I can not make it boot from the volume. Is this similar to the predecessory problem accessing larger volumes?

If I partition the drive can I make a smaller partition boot? What size limits should exist for bootable partitions?

Thanks!

Ron,
Apple's drivers may not support that drive, but you are able to format it so thats kindof strange if true. There should be no problems with the size of the drive, mac os can handle that fine. As for a partition, its really a personal matter. Some people like to keep their system and vm on the drive so maybe allot 100 megs for the system(i'm being generous) plus whatever you wish for vm. You may want to look into fwb or silverlining for drivers for you drive. They tend to support a wider array of drives.
Regards,
Tom
