Problem: Combination
Computer Type: power computing
Model: power tower pro 225
RAM: 65+
RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: MacOS 8.5

Description:
Hi. I'm having a frustrating problemw with an otherwise no-problem Power Tower Pro. It's the only one of four office Macs not connected to our ethernet lan. I now would like to be able to access our 3Com Office Connect Lan modem from this machine, so I got a long ethernet cable, connected it to the hub, installed Netscape 4.5, turned on Appletalk/Ethernet, starting file sharing. I can NOT get it to connect. I go to CHooser and can connect to the other machines for file sharing. I try to open Netscape and it either freezes upon first seeing a screen, or will open then not find the web. If I then go back to the chooser, the other computers are no longer available. I've trashed 4.5, reinstalled 3.1 and it crashes on startup. I've started with just 8.5 extensions on. No good. ANy ideas? I'm baffled. I thought maybe I had the wrong cable, but I can connect to the other machines... until I crash or lock up with Netscape, then they disappear.
ANy help you can offer would be appreciated.
yes... I've put in all the proper data for Internet connecting.
Thanks.

Dear rick,
Try the following Netscape tips. If they don't help, I will forward this our other users and see what they say.

*Directly allocate 20,000k or more to Netscape. You type this amount in the Preferred Memory Box under Get Info. Click on the Navigator icon once, then select Get Info.

*Go into your Extensions Manager and see if you can find an ObjectSupportLib extension. If so, remove it immediately.

*In your Memory Control Panel, set your Disk Cache to 1024k for every 32mb of ram you have installed.

*In your Extensions Manager, disable Adobe Type Reunion and Adobe Type Manager.

*Don't use anything less then Netscape 4, reinstall version 4.5 with all extensions off.

*As an alternative, try using Internet Explorer 4.5 and see if you get the same results.
