Does Internet Explorer launch, and then crash, or does it not start at all.

You may be able to fix this by repairing the disk permissions.

If you do not know how to do this, please reply.

Hi there Fracnis,

I'm picking this up from William who replied before.

First, Internet EXplorer for Mac was discontinued by Microsoft some time ago, and even Microsoft now recommend using another browser like Apple's Safari or Mozilla Firefox. Even sites that say they require explorer can be got roudn with Firefox by using extensions like this. If this isn't an option, and you REALLY need to use IE, then we'll try and fix it for you.

To repair permissions go to your Applications folder, and in that to the "Utilities" Folder. In here look for a program called Disk Utility, and open it.

You will see a list of all drives connected to your machine. Select your main hard drive, and click the button marked "Repair permission". It only takes a few minutes normally.

If this doesn't work, try replacing away the preferences for Internet Explorer (though you might lose you bookmarks, so perhaps instead of throwing away these files move them to a folder on your desktop.)

You need to move or throw away:

[your user folder]/Library/Preferences/Explorer

By [you user folder], i mean the folder named after your account. For me its is ora, for you it may be something like Francis.

If none of this works I can try and send you a copy of IE (its not available online anymore), but I strongly suggest using a different browser, and trying all the above first.

Good luck, let me know how you get on,

ora

Hi Francis,

Glad to hear it! I'll shut the ticket now but do come back to macosx.com if you have any further problems.
