I start up safari, the yahoo page load, but then everything stops and the network box opens telling me I'm not connected, I do the diagnostics and am told my connection is ok I reload the page and start surfing, then it happens again, and I go through the same process on nearly every site I try to log onto.

I've checked the log I get error 341, 348 and something to do with speed download manager.

Can anyone help
thank all

Speed Download is often updated - have you tried updating that software?
Or, uninstalling it - some users report problems with SD and Safari 3 as updated by 10.4.11

Have you tried another browser (FireFox, Camino, Opera, etc.)?

What is your actual internet connection? (wireless, or wired, ethernet or dial-up modem?)

Hi deltamac
I have a netgear wireless modem router I did have firefox but started to have trouble with it so I uninstalled it and am using yahoo. my problem has got worse since updating to mac 10.4.11 in the last 2 weeks. I've searched for all related files regarding firefox and deleted them, but I can't be sure if I got everything.

thanks
john

You mention yahoo, but that's just your home page. You can use the yahoo page, regardless of the browser (Safari, FireFox, etc) that you use.

Who do you pay for internet service? Cable or DSL?

Your Netgear router probably has ethernet ports that you can use, instead of the wireless. If you have an ethernet patch cable - try connecting with that. Is that ethernet connection more stable?

You did mention Speed Download, which is not part of any browser, but can modify your connection. Have you tried uninstalling Speed Download? OR, you should also check that your version of Speed Download is up-to-date. Software often needs to be updated when the operating system (your OS X) is updated.
Firefox doesn't really affect your internet connection. It is a recipient of your settings/hardware, and just works, or doesn't work. If you have problems with Firefox, and are not using Firefox, uninstalling is not needed - just don't use Firefox. You're not using Microsoft Windows, you know!

I would appreciate a few more words...
which ones did you try, and which ones are you ignoring?

Reinstalling Safari is not likely to help, but _uninstalling_ Speed download just might help.

I'm with talktalk. I have uninstalled speed downloader. I did start getting problems with firefox, but not with any other web browser until now, and it's got worse with 10.4.11 which I downloaded 2 weeks ago. my router is 5 feet from my mac and I will try the ethernet cable and let you know.

thanks for your concern

If you upgraded from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11 (the incremental update), then you may benefit from trying the combined updater. Just download from this link - http://www.apple.com/support/downloa...updateppc.html
Then, install. The combined updater will often fix problems that begin after an incremental update, and is worth trying.
Repair your disk permissions after installing that update, using your Disk Utility.

Hope this will help you...
