Hi all, Im new to this forum (in fact its my 1st forum ever, so Im new to the whole thing). I have been using a 12" 1GHz G4 Powerbook running 10.3.9 (I think) to run pro tools for almost 3 years, and got a frozen screen whilst online tonight and had to do a forced restart, which gave me only a gray screen.
When carrying out the disc utility on my software install DVD (panther) i got the message "Invalid leaf record count, should be 4 instead of 666" and that "1 volume needs repair"
Im not a tech (im a lover) and havent the foggiest what this means and whether its the end of 'Mrs Robertson?' fortunately, im typing this on my shiny new G5 iMac, hmmmmm.......
does this ring any alarm bells with anybody?
many thanks
joe
"Invalid leaf record count, should be 4 . . . ." means that there is a problem with your disk directory, and Disk Utility is offering the opinion that the volume needs repair. Did you try the Repair button when you saw the message, and did you run the repair a second time as a recheck after attempting a repair?
You may find that Disk Utility cannot repair this problem, and trying twice results in the same message. You should then use a more capable disk repair utility, such as DiskWarrior, which is a commercial software, and will normally repair that type of problem.
Let me know how it goes..

Hi Dale, thanks for the advice. Realised the following day that my friend installed tiger on my powerbook, which is why I think my panther install disk did not resolve the issue. used his install disk to run disk utility and all is now well.
Many Thanks
Joe
