TICKET ARCHIVE -> iPages - Changing photo proportions

I'm just starting to learn to use iPages. (2.0.2 2006) I am using the template Education Scrapbook. Page 2. I am dragging in photos from iPhoto. That works fine as long as the photo I'm dragging in has the same proportions as the photo placeholder. But when it doesn't, iPages crops the photo in ways that I don't necessarily like. If I want to change the size of the photo, I can click on any of the "handles" of the photo. Even the ones on the sides change the size but keep the proportions of the photo the same as the place holder was. Does anyone know if there is a way I can change the proportions of the photos I can drag into iPhoto.

Thanks,
Becky Schaller

Becky,

You need to open the Inspector in iPages. In the title bar you should have the Inspector icon at the right side.

Once Inspector is open, click on the Wrap Inspector icon (the third one from the left).
Click on the image, then on the Wrap Inspector you can change the way the text is wrapping around the image. It is probably set to fixed on page. Change it to Moves with text, then select the way you want the text to move around the image in the Object causes wrap section of the Wrap Inspector.

Now you can adjust the size of the image to the way you like.

Cheryl, thanks for offering to help me. I may be doing something basically wrong, but I am still not able to change the proportions of the photo. I can change the size, but not the proportions of the photo. All I want is to include a person or a couple's name under each photo. I don't want a lot of text. (The format is like a yearbook page.) It doesn't seem to matter if I have Moves with text checked or Fixed on page checked, I am only able to change the size of the photo, but not the proportions. Do you have any idea what I might be doing wrong?
Thanks,
Becky

Becky,

Your best bet is to use a photo editor first to change the image to what you want. Then place it in Pages.

I use GraphicConverter.

It is a good shareware that does everything Photoshop does.

Give that a try and see if you like the results.

Cheryl, thanks for letting me know about macupdate. I want to check that out when I have a little more time.

It looks like I wasn't real clear about the difficulty I'm having. The image is the shape I want it before I drag it to iPages. But then iPages crops it to fit in the rectangle that serves as a place holder. Do you know of a way I can change the proportions of the placeholder? Or do you know of another way I can keep the photos the same length/width ratio as it was before I dragaged it into iPhoto?

Thanks for your help.

Becky,

Before you insert a picture, make sure there are no page styles set to that page. A totally blank page with no columns will allow the picture to be the size you want. Columns limits you to the size of each column.

You can check the page styles in the Inspector.

Once you have the image on the page, go to Arrange menu and make sure it is unlocked as if it is locked, you will not be able to move or adjust the position of the picture. Also, you do not want it grouped with anything as you work with the images.

I opened iPages to test this out and it should work for you. You need to remember that the image will only fit within the margins set. You can adjust the margins in the Inspector in the Document section (the first icon at the far left in the Inspector window).

Let me know if this helps you.
