How do you sync your palm pilot? If you sync it to ical, address book, etc., then when you sync your iPhone, the same data will be synced to your iPhone as was to your Palm pilot.

Thank you, but if I understand correctly you are taking about data that is on the MAC system (ical book address, etc) Does it apply for data in the palm pilot system

Well, if you sync your palm pilot with your powerbook the data between your palm pilot and your powerbook should be the same. The only reason this would be different is if you are using a program like PalmDesktop to sync your information. Mac OS X has sync services built in and when you set up your palm pilot, you can choose to sync your data with ical, address book, etc. If this is the way yours is set up, when you sync your iphone for the first time, the data will be synced from your powerbook to your iphone, then the data sets will be identical... that is what is meant by syncing.

Hope this helps.

Hi Pejota,

Your last tech was absolutely right: but maybe he didn't explain everything properly.

"Syncing" means transferring data from a computer to a mobile device (Palm, iPhone, iPod etc,,). If you have XYZ files on your computer and you sync these files to your Palm, your Palm will also have XYZ files.

If you buy an iPhone, you will sync those XYZ files as well. If you delete file Y on your Palm and then sync with your computer, then file Y will also be deleted on your computer. If you sync your iPhone with your computer again, then iPhone will see that file Y has been deleted and will also delete it (on the iPhone).

You cannot sync from your Palm to your iPhone! If you change a file on your iPhone, then you must always first sync with the computer. Then Palm will notice it and change it as well.

Hope this helps,

Ferdinand

Hi ferdinand

Thank you for your time. Iīm sorry I havenīt been very clear . What I want to know is that the palm data compatible with the iphone data, i.e., will my all address book from the palm sync automatically with the iphone (from the computer) or I cannot transfer all the data from one device to other; plam to mac and then to iphone. And the same questions applies for all data such as calendar, notes etc.

The other question is that does the iphone work with documents like excel, word, PPT, etc?? are they compatible?

Thank you again

Best wishes

Hi Pejota,

The data synced to your Palm is Mac-compatible data. When you change something on your Palm, to be transferrable to your Mac, it needs to be converted to Mac-compatible data anyway. So it will work on the iPhone.

I don't think an iPhone can open any Word, Excel or PowerPoint files though, because I couldn't find anything and the iPhone is more of an iPod and phone than a Palm or anything else.

Thanks,

Ferdinand
