I have just purchased a Mac Mini and have X10.3.9 installed.

I am just checking over all my bits and have come across an issue with Iphoto and my Fuji Camera.

After I captured all photography from the camera and I tried to view the content I discovered that the Media Content was unreadable. I did NOT select delete on load in iPhoto.

ANy ideas as to the proble and solution?

hello David,
My name is Tom and I shall try to help you with your problem. Thanks for using macosx.com.

Firstly make sure you have the latest version of iphoto, which is now up to 5.02. You do this by selecting "software update" from the Apple menu.

You can import pictures using Image Capture (found in your applications folder). This provides more control of the process. Its also the software you use to set what software launches on the connection of you camera (via preferences in Image capture). Try using this software and looking at the pics via something other than iphoto (such as Preview). If the pictures look fine then drag them over to iphoto and see if they import ok this way.

It could also be that the iphoto library is corrupted (an issue seen in iphoto5.0.0). With the most up-to-date version of iphoto, update the library by launching iphoto with the apple and alt keys held down.

If image capture works but still you have problems with iphoto then there are other things we can try.

If nothing at all works let me know what camera model you have and we'll dig a bit deeper.

Do get back to me if you need more explicit help with what I've just suggested (eg help with Image Capture)

Let me know how you get on

Regards
Tom

David,
One more thing... You may find "repair permissions" helps too. I suggest you do this first. open Disk Utility (in your applications->Utilities folder), select your hard disk and then click on the repair permissions button. Its good to do this from time to time anyway.

Thanks for reply, I have been on holiday taking some more photography.

I have iusolated the cause as being 'failure to dismount the media card'.

I have to admit that I use both XP and Mac OS (X now that I have purchased a mini). I was expecting that the OS would be a little more robust but I cannot really blame X.

Provided I eject the media that is mounted then there is no problem.

Regards

Daver

David,
Glad you have found a solution. Iphoto should unmount your camera/memory card automatically. Using a memory card reader can sometimes prevent this but it is not a problem as such... so long as you remember to manually unmount the card. Note that it is very easy to corrupt your memory card if you do not properly unmount it before removal. If the computer is reading or writing to it while you disconnect the card then problems can easily occur. This is not related to the computer OS (Mac or PC) - it is a memory card thing. If the card does become corrupted then typically your photos will still be safe but the card will be unreadable. there is software available to rescue the card in these situations - probably a bigger selection available for pc than Mac!

Tom

I do not have a URL to hand, as such, but I'm sure a quick google will come up with the goods!

Thanks for using macosx.com
