I copied my iphoto pictures to a DVD-R, now I'm trying to copy new pictures to the same DVD-R and it says that I need to insert a new, blank disc. There is plenty of space on the one I copied to (only used approximately 1 GB out of the 4.7GB available).
It appears that iPhoto has closed the disc. If so, is there anything I can do to add pictures and if not is there anything I can do to prevent this in the future and still back up my photos?
Thank you.
Geoff
Geoff, welcome to macosx.com
No, when the DVD-R is closed, either by iPhoto or other software with burning capabilities (iTunes, Finder, ...), the DVD-R cannot be burned again
(A) What you can do is using a rewritable DVD-RW and manually burn as:
(1) burn the first series of photos
(2) when you want to add photos, first copy the old ones from the DVD-RW to a folder; then add to this FOLDER the new ones
(3) erase the DVD-RW (see your Mac help for this)
(4) and reburn the completed folder to the DVD-RW yoiu'juste erased
!! you can erase rewritable DVD-RW..not simple DVD-R
(B) another way is to create appendable multisession disc as described here
http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage...urn_tiger.html
You must be aware that, in this multisession way, if the burning of the, let's say, 4th session failed for any reason, the whole disc may be corrupted
I do not know if iPhoto can handle such disc
So, as the prices of single DVD-R or even DVD-RW are so low, I won't spend my time (or risk a heart attack) whith multisession burning
(C) last but not least, if you plan to do this backup of photos (and why not other folders) on a regulars basis, I may suggest you to buy a external FW/USB2 hard drive: let's say, 100$ for a 120GB
I never burn any CD/DVDs from iPhoto/Itunes as backup is concerned... I simply drag the whole iTunes library / iPhoto library folders to my external drive
