I'm running iPhoto 5.0.3 on OS X 10.4.2 and mostly it works except that when I try to open up a certain one of my regular, plain old folders, my system crashes. This isn't an application crash - my entire system crashes! I get the veil that comes down and tells me to hold down the power button to shut off the computer. It is completely reproducable whenever I try to look at the full sized version of some of the photos in the album.
I have already tried repairing permissions, repairing the disk and I've run the hardware diagnostics from the install disc in loop mode 19 times (overnight).
Anyone have any other ideas?

Micah,
I try to solve such a problem with another fellow which faces the same problem.
Could you first follow the instructions given here:
http://homepage.mac.com/butlers/iPho...or/rebuild.htm
Especially, the rebuilt iPhoto database function .
Do you have iPhot export plug-in ?
What is show in the console log ?
Launch Application/utilities/Console, select history and serch for the following log in the left pane
~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/iPhoto.crash.log.
What do you see ?
Regards
Phil

Thank you very much! That site was very useful and my machine now appears to have recovered with only minimal data loss.

Micah,
May I ask you a last bunch of questions...as far as the other fellow I try to help is concerned..
(1) Do you have iPhoto export plug-ins ?
(2) Does the rebuild database works or do you use the iPhotExtractor to solve your problem ?
I would thank you in advance for answering these questions, as these answers can help me to solve the 'other fellow' problem.
Thank you
Phil

No problem!
I do have iFlickrExport beta installed, but that is all.
The rebuild database function seems to be all that I required. Fortunately, I had no need of iPhotoExtractor.
I am curious as to why this problem caused the entire system to crash though - it's only a user-level application, no?

Well, I do not know:
I try to help 3 person with the iPhoto 'system crash symptom'
One has no extension -> rebuild the database works
You with an Flickr extension -> rebuild works
The 3rd one one extension (special plugin for HTML expor -never heard of such an plug-in): removing the extension, rebuild database, repaired permissions.. so the great cleaning action: nothing works..right now, but I still looks for a solution
Thanks for your answer, Micah
Happy that the simple rebuild of the databse solves your problem

Phil
