TICKET ARCHIVE -> iPhoto crashing upon opening

A few months ago I started having problems with iPhoto crashing when I tried to open the program. The only thing I can think of is that my HD might be too full. Could this be the issue or is there something else? I have 876 mb available.

thanks for using macosx.com and I will try to advise and assist you as best as I can.

OK - I have a pretty good idea that you have already hit the nail firmly on the head... You have less than 1Gb of free space on your Hard Drive and by modern standards that is a miniscule amount.... and the OS needs some space for virtual memory, scratch space, temp files, etc.
Also such a small amount of free space will be broken up into little pockets of space all over the disk... the result is bad performance, a lot of disk "churning" when saving stuff and things like iPhoto failing on launch because they can't find enough space for their VM files, scratch space and temp storage...

As a matter of urgency archive off as much unnecessary stuff as you can - (burn some stuff to DVDs or invest in an external HDD - those are pretty cheap these days, even the tidy little "pocket drives" - and shunt a load of stuff over to that)

People come up with all sorts of "rule of thumb" about how full you should let the HDD get - but I prefer to just work on the idea that you shouldn't really let yourself get below about 5Gb of free space.... I would consider 2Gb as an absolute minimum (and only then in an emergency - I like to have or more free.. and yes I have the same MacBook as you)

Do some house cleaning and then use a tool such as Onyx (free) http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html or YASU (donations appreciated) http://jimmitchell.org/projects/yasu/ or any of several others that will allow you to run the system housekeeping tasks
