I want a photo viewer that is fast (Iphoto first shows the pic a little blurred, then after a few seconds it gets clear - is that my ram? Slow CPU speed?, and doesn't need to "import" things and "export" things. I just hate the way Apple has to mess things up. Every other viewer I know if just takes the pic and displays it. But no....Apple has to import this, export this, library this, cache this, blah, blah. I could strangle the designer of this.

Can I use a simple viewer (besides Preview which is not bad) where I can view from the source and keeps things where they are? Preview seems to be pretty fast and efficient. But Iphoto has better photo presentation, full screen capabilities (yet why can't they show title of the picture?) Who displays a picture without its title? Did they forget that? Bizarre company.

I don't need stupid eye candy like slide shows and background music........unbelievable. You'd think they were selling to pre-teen girls. Maybe in the next version there will be ring-tones and frithy backgrounds. LOL.....do you ever wonder if there is even 1 straight person working at Apple?

I don't understand the Iphoto library. Its a fraction of the size of the photos inside it. Where are the rest of the photos?

If there was a way of getting iPhoto to view pictures right off the memory card or camera without moving them anywhere that would be nice. "Just take the picture, show the picture and put it back, Mr Iphoto." I want to delete bad photos right away, then work with the rest. When I was using RAW, Preview seemed very slow off the card (USB-2 but not a high speed CF reader), but now that I'm back to using JPG's the speed is fine. Do you think a firewire card reader would help that at all? Its a 8mb DSLR Canon 350 so most pics are 2-3mp I think. Wonderful camera. So well designed. Using a 50mm F1.8 for its superb optics and great light gathering ability. Bokeh isn't bad too (as I'm a beginner in digial SLR photopgraphy.

Hi Robin!
You don't need to use an app just to review your photos, and you don't have to move the file anywhere.
Just use the finder.
Select your picture or pictures.
Right (control)-click on your pictures, and choose slideshow.
Click on 'index sheet' and then mouse across each picture to show the title.
Click on a picture to take it to full size, and click on the full screen icon to take that to full screen, if you need to.

If you have Leopard, this task is even simpler, with more capabilities.
Select a picture, and press space to have a Quick Look. One click to review a picture, video, or many other types of files - pretty slick, I think!

If you want to avoid iPhoto - There's other photo organizer apps. Even Canon has a usable one with their cams. (ImageBrowser)

The browser included with GraphicConverter is pretty good, I don't know if it will suit your needs, but you could try it out.

Well right clicking + slideshow is one cool trick! I see it uses Preview but in a way I've never seen before. Quite marvelous. Odd that they don't just have a Full Screen mode under View in Preview. Guess that would be too consistent and obvious! This is like searching for buried treasure. You ever know what you'll find each day.

iPhoto is nice in some regards. GraphicConverter also has some neat things. Definitely one of the best I've seen. But I'm new to this photo stuff so my opinion doesn't mean much yet.

One thing that I yearn for though is an image viewer that can (with a keyboard shortcut like Opera) Fit to Screen Width and with another (Opera doesn't have this) Fit to Screen Height. That way the smaller dimension is fixed and you use your mouse wheel to scroll the other. It makes for an extremely fast way of adjudicating your results at maximum possible size. I'm using a 22" monitor now and its wonderful. With the Intel Mini I can go up to a 24" but they're just too expensive so that will have to wait a few months. Probably by next summer it will be ok.
