Is there a way to have the iphoto aplication run from the system disk and use the iphoto library from another disk, In order to save space on my system disk?
I tried starting the aplication from the system disk and when it asked for the library to point it to another disk but it failed to use it and showed no pictures in it. Is there a preference or a data file I have to delete?
Thank you,
Micha

Hi Micha
Take the iPhoto Library out of here;
user>Pictures
leave it on your desktop, then open iPhoto. It should ask you for a new location, choose where you want it.
This is our Donation page, just checked, it's working;

Thanks

Hi Bob
Thanks for your answer.
I looked at user>Pictures and there's no library there. It's empty. Still, when I open the software, it doesn't ask me for a location of an existing library, or weather I want to open a new one (like it does when the software is new), but just opens normally, with no pictures in it (which are stored in a library on a different disk to which I would like it to point).
I tried restarting the computer, and to re-copy the program from a back-up (through copying it, not installing). Nothing helped.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Micha

Move this file (com.apple.iPhoto.plist) out of this location;
user>library>preferences
The start iPhoto and see if it ask for a location.

Thanks Bob.
That helped partially. It did ask for a location, but when I pointed it to the existing location on other than the operating system disk (where I have all my pictures) it created a library with no pictures in it... As if it didn't see the existing pictures in the existing library.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Micha

Move your pictures to the folder in the new location. Make sure you Option copy so you still have the originals just incase.

This is not a good idea since the whole idea is to run iphoto from one disk and to store the photos on another disk, so the operating system disk will not be jammed. Hmmmmm....
Don't know what to do...

This seems like a great idea and for a moment I though it would solve my problem.
But what happened was that it did open the library from the external disk (with hundreds of photos in it), but came up with the message "no photos" and actually showed no photos in the iphoto.
Perhaps some iphoto data file is corrupted?

I would try trashing the 'com.apple.iphoto.plist' preference file again now and see if ti works. Other than that, I don't know.
If this doesn't work, post on our open forums. A lot of people have done this, have had problems and got it sorted out. Someone there will be able to help if this doesn't work.
