Per my previous question about what has happened to the useability of my iphoto library, mine does reside (and did before the answer) in the pictures library of my home folder, as the respondent suggested it should be. However, I am still unable to utilize the jpegs within the library, they are only aliases and cannot be edited. Does anyone have any other ideas?

If you check in your iPhoto Library folder again, you'll see folders titled for each year. You'll find your real .jpg files (or whatever other picture formats you have) in those folders. I agree, they're not too easy to find. You can also export your photos to make them more easily accessible.

I guess I'm not following. When I put the jpegs into iphoto originally, they could be arranged, edited (color, size, etc.). Now I cannot do that because they're aliases and I don't think I've moved them from the library. Would iphoto move them somewhere by itself, without input from me? I have noticed the years albums in iphoto, within the library and wondered where they came from. How would I get those back into an editable position? If it's by exporting them, where to?

I guess I'm not following you, either. Doesn't your iPhoto work at all? Can you view and edit the photos WITHIN iPhoto? If that works, you can select whatever photos you want to export, and select Export, under the Share menu in iPhoto
A window will open giving you the choice for the location to export your picture files. Put them some place that will be easy to find. You can create a folder on the desktop for that purpose.
The actual photos are all in the various year folders, in a folder for each month/date that the photos were originally added to iPhoto. Don't move those, as iPhoto will lose track of them. You can do an Option-drag of each file to a different folder, or whereever you like. The originals will stay in place when you do an Option-drag.
Let me know how it goes...

No, that's my problem. I can view all the photos within the iphoto library, but can't do anything with them (get larger view, change contrast, etc.) Trying to do so gets me an error message saying these are only aliases, or this file can't be found. And iphoto itself seems a little sluggish - it was very fast originally, but with hundreds of jpegs in it, it seems much slower in loading different folders of pictures. Dick

Try rebuilding the iPhoto library.
Launch iPhoto while holding the Option and Apple keys. iPhoto will ask if you want to rebuild the library, you should agree to do that.
There may be several choices, I would choose all. If your library is large, this may take a while.
Let me know how it goes.
