Dear Support Tech,
I'm not very "computerized" person, but generally I'm OK with simple instructions.
I wanted to update/restore my iPhoto 4.0.3, because it got very slow and not responsive to commands.
After downloading the "update" file, I received information, that iPhoto File can not be found in the Application Folder.
What happened?
I remember disconnecting my digital camera incorrectly by shutting the camera off .
iPhoto file IS in Application Folder , when I checked it.
I can work on iPhoto, but with problems.
What should I do?
Thank you,
Teresa

Teresa,

I'm Tom and I shall be assisting you.

So, you look in your applications folder and in there is your iPhoto application. Good. You can Launch iphoto but its a bit slow.

Bear in mind that iphoto is dealing with quite "heavy" media and so on some computers it will run a bit slow. let me know what computer model you have, how much hard disk space you have and how much RAM you have and I can tell you whether this slow down is normal (oh and how many pictures you have!)

The best way to update your apple applications is to use software update. go to the apple menu and select "software update" and you computer will automatically find any application that can be updated. I am wondering if you have downloaded iphoto version 5 update? If so you will not be able to use this as you need to give some money to apple if you want to go from a version 4.x to 5.x unfortunately.

One process which may help you is to repair permissions. this is an automatic routine that you can get your computer to do which helps to keep things running smoothly. Sort of housekeeping!

Go into your applications folder and open the utilities folder
locate and launch Diskutilities
select your main system drive (macintosh hd)
click "repair permissions" and let it do its thing

This is something you should do before and after you install any major software (especially OS updates) and once a month or so.

By the way to find out how much RAM, what OS version and what processor you have go the apple menu and select "about this mac"

To find out how much free hard disk space you have just double click on your hard disk and it should tell you the free space you have at the bottom of the window.

let me know how you get on. If you need more help I will need to know the info I've mentioned and anything else that you think will help me - even if it seems irrelevant to you it may well be the clue I need to solve your problem.

regards

Tom
