TICKET ARCHIVE -> iphoto problem: renamed files now none will go back into i photo
Jacksloadedgun - Mar 7, 2006 - 12:39 am
i was getting sick of having to find image files in finder with weird numeric names and now ever since i renamed them i can not put those files back in iphoto.
they are still jpgs and for some reason iphot tells me they are missing information and or can not be read.
is there any way around this. i'm using i photo 5 if i go to iphoto 6 will that help, or am i just screwed.

Hi Jacksloadedgun,
When you renamed your files did you change the extensions as well? For instance, if the file was named "0025461.jpg", did you rename it to something like "home" without the ".jpg" extension? If that's the issue, just add a ."jpg" to the end of your name and iPhoto should recognize it.
If that's not it, then there could be a few other things. Can you open the files with Preview? Have you tried inserting them in Microsoft Word or other word processor? If Preview and Word recognize them, then there really shouldn't be anything wrong with your pics.
As for switching to the newer version of iPhoto--it really shouldn't matter. But, if you want, go ahead and try. Unfortunately, you'll have to buy the new iLife bundle to do that.
Get back to me about those extensions.
Sincerely,
Vishad

accually i figured it out the other day on my own. what i did is create another folder for all the pictures and that made them unreadable, the file extensions hadn't been changed at all. the folder i was sending to was something like
home-picture-iphoto-iphoto library-folder names-accually pictures
i moved all my photos to just the first iphoto extension and it worked.
thank you though for your help, sorry i didn't close this.
