When it begins to launch, it "circles" a few times, then closes and a "Submit Report" window opens.
I may have downloaded an update recently, but I'm not sure how long before this started happening.

Hi,
Try going to applications > utilities > disk utility > repair disk permissions
Quit when finished and launch iPhoto again
If that doesn't work try reinstalling it from the original disc (did you get one?) and update
Let me know how you get on.

Did repair disk permissions, no luck. Then dusted off my old iLife '05 disk, tried both the CD and the DVD but strangely was not able to get them to install; the install "box" zoomed like it should, but then nothing happened. I did Software Update and upgraded iPhoto, seemed to update normally, but again, no luck. Not sure what to do next.

Addendum: I had actually done the Update before I ever contacted you. I tried again since last response, and now I can't get ANYTHING to update, so I downloaded the new version of iPhoto and tried to install. It wouldn't allow me to install, said there was an error in the software. This is all very new for my little Mac.

Have you tried to delete your iphoto Preferences? and then reinstall?

1) How do I do that?
2) I can't get my iLife '05 disks to install (see above). The only thing available to reinstall is the update from the Apple website.

Hi there,
You really want to tread carefully here (don't panic though) as you don't want to lose any data you have in iPhoto.
Ideally what you do is to log in to OS X as a different user and launch iPhoto.
If you don't have this setup then lets start with an easier option.
Backup the whole iPhoto Library folder to another location outside of your Pictures folder, like to your Desktop. You can do this by pressing the 'Option/alt' key on the keyboard and while doing so, drag a copy of the folder to the desktop.
Next, make sure iPhoto isn't trying to run (should be now black pyramid under it in the dock) and if you are using version:
4.0.3 or earlier -
hold down the 'Shift' and 'Option/alt' keys on the keyboard and click on iPhoto in the dock to launch it.
version 5.0 or later -
hold down the 'Command/Apple' and 'Option/alt' keys and click on iPhoto in the dock to launch it.
Keep the keys pressed until you get a message to rebuild the library.
If you are on version 5 of iPhoto, then you will see more rebuild options.
If so, select only the 3rd 'Rebuild the iPhoto Library database' option and click 'Rebuild'
Otherwise, for version 4.0.3 or earlier, click 'Yes'
If this works, and you are happy with the results, then you can delete the copy you made to the desktop.
Let me know if you get stuck.

I rebuilt the library as above, didn't seem to do much or take long, same problem when I re-lauched iPhoto. I do have another user set up on the computer and iPhoto does launch there, so obviously, it's a problem with my library. What can I do to remedy this situation using the other user profile (which incidentally has an empty library)?
